No Partner Needed, Kilt Optional!
There is no need to be Scottish to enjoy Scottish Country Dancing. The group is friendly, the music is great and it's great exercise for body and brain.
Red Deer Scottish Country Dancers meet weekly September to May at 7:15 on Wednesday in the Knox Presbyterian Church (4718 Ross Street) gym. A certified teacher comes regularly to conduct the class.
This is not Highland dancing, but much closer to the ground, although retired Highland dancers do have training in much of the terminology and dance steps. Jigs, reels and strathspeys are danced to the music of fiddles, accordions and piano.
Partners are not required to join. The group is open to singles, partners and families. New Canadians who would like to practice their English are welcome to come out. Members of our group do not need to be Scottish and wearing a kilt is optional.
It is recommended that you come to three dance sessions before you make up your mind if this is for you or not. Annual fee: $100.
Red Deer Scottish Country Dancers perform throughout the year, including Canada Day celebrations.
